Bob Milne Library of Congress Interview by Jennifer Cutting

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

This is a small segment of the Library of Congress’s interview of Bob Milne by Jennifer Cutting. In the spring of 2004, Ragtime historian and piano great Bob Milne was invited to be interviewed and recorded by the Library of Congress in Washington, DC for inclusion in the Oral History Archives, part of the LOC’s permanent collection. This marks the first time a ragtime piano player has been interviewed by the Library of Congress since Jelly Roll Morton in 1938 — and in the very same Coolidge Auditorium! On these recordings, Bob reveals the roots and lore of ragtime music, as well as personal anecdotes from his life as a working musician for 40 years, from orchestral French horn player — to saloon piano player — to international concert pianist. And throughout, Bob’s encyclopedic mind reveals fascinating, little known facts about the origins and inventors of this vanishing art form. Bob is interviewed while sitting at a piano so that he can actually demonstrate the musical ideas and examples that he talks about. The result is this entertaining and enlightening 4 DVD set. You can see the entire interview as well as much more by purchasing it Today! www.bobmilne.com
